How to catch a monster - Devlog #5


This week I reworked the monster catch mechanics. It's no longer as easy as clicking one button. Here are the rules for catching a monster:

  • All other monsters of the opponent's team need to be defeated, otherwise they will protect and block the catch
  • The monster needs to be under 50% health
  •  The lower the health of the monster, the more likely it is to be caught successfully
  • You only have 3 tries per battle to catch a monster (may be more later with skills and items coming soon)
  • You can only catch wild monsters. Monsters of other trainers cannot be caught.

Two things that will probably come in later:

  • Make some monsters harder to catch or make high level monsters harder to catch 
  • Status effects like sleep will improve the success rate
